The 4D Tango Festival has been organized since 2000 DC by the TipoTango Foundation, in with the local theaters like Plaza Futura, the Effenaar, the Park theater and the Music hall. For four days Eindhoven is devoted notice to music from the 'Epoca de Oro' (about 1940) with for example Gardel, Troilo, Canaro, d'Arienzo), but also Tango Nuevo (Piazzolla, Pugliese), neotango (non-classic tango dance-music) and tango fusion (Gotan, Narcotango, Bajofondo).

One of the goals of the TipoTango Foundation is to make the tango dance and music accessible for the ordinary public, to promote participation and to lower the barriers to practice by offering a suitable dance floor and proper teachers. Practise what you preach, and the offer of a broad cultural program with Argentine music, dance, theater and film is loving and learning together. By that strategy the 4D Tango Festival is a trendsetter.
The 4D Tango Festival in Eindhoven attracts visitors and participators from both the region as a circle of 100 kilometers around, including Flanders. Dance die hards from Germany, Belgium, France and UK come over for some days to dance as much miles as they can. During the last years the 4D Festival is at the same time with the Eindhoven event 'Dans in den Elzent'. The Festival came into being in 2000 by initiative of Jan van Amelsfoort, Marijke Slegers and Jacob van Kokswijk. Soon, it gets support by Birkit Wildenburg and Muzaffer Demiray of Tango La Zapada .

During the 1st Festival the 'espectáculo tango' dance group of La Zapada showed its capability. The famous Argentine dance couple Julio & Corina offered intensive workshops, an intensive crash course steams beginners to the dance floor, and as usual each festival day was finished with a dance party till late in the night. The next day the local daily pointed that "thousands of dancers from several countries had visited the 4D Festival". The publicity continues for years, including radio, television and news papers.

In 2004 the 4D Festival experienced its lustrum highlight with a very broad public program with the movie "Assassination Tango" by Robert Duvall, an act from the theater play "Ensueños de Tango", music performances of the Orquesta Típica Silencio Tango and Quinteto Zárate, plus workshops and demo's of the famous dance couples Patricia & Matteo, Oliver & Marissa and Birkit & Muzaffer. The local hotel and catering industry tuned to the festival by discounts for food, drinks and lodging.
THE MILONGA

From the beginning the Gymnasium Augustianum (build 1912-1925) from the Augustinian monastery Mariënhage acts as central point of the festival. Since 2001 the lower level of the chapel is used, as also some other class rooms in the building. The middle age monastery Ten Hage was established in the castle that was granted in 419 to the Augustinian canons. The whole complex is largely nominated to the list of national monuments and historic buildings. The authentic monumental brickwork in the TipoTango dance room is preserved.
